That "Why Am I Always Broke?" Feeling Is Deeper Than You Think...

Financial fatigue is real — and it’s not just the prices at TJ Maxx causing it.

Hey Hey Funders!

How is June tapping in for you!?

Being real with you for a second.

Let me tell you what happened to me the other day, seriously. I don't take any interaction with you lightly, but I felt that someone, maybe you, had to hear this and feel this. I didn't get a DM, I got a call about a post I made. Yes, they jumped into the calling phase.. the person told me all of the money issues they were having, from pending divorce to managing kids/life, life-ing to credit card debt to just being able to breathe.

That email response to my email I sent back gave off the fact of this notion:

“I’m so tired, and I don’t even feel like I’m doing anything extra.”

And I knew exactly what they meant.

They weren’t talking about being tired from a workout or staying up too late. They were talking about financial fatigue.

It’s that slow, constant burnout that comes from trying to keep your head above water financially. You might not even be behind — but the uncertainty, the pressure, the endless cycle of working, paying, waiting, stressing... it eats at you.

When Doechii made the song Anxiety - not only was it trending on the charts, but it was where a lot of us were checking into what was happening within us - wholeness and wallet.

And the worst part? You’re not even sure what’s wrong. You just feel off.

Here’s what I’ve seen over and over:
When you don’t know your numbers, you start living in reaction mode.

That means:

  • You’re scared to open your banking app. I made a Thread about this.

  • You’re dodging emails because they might be bills

  • You’re overthinking every purchase because you don’t know if it’s okay to spend

Even when you’re not doing anything “wrong,” the mental weight of the unknown is exhausting.

I call this financial fog. Like brain fog from the pandemic, but about how you handle the money/paper you have. This could be due to the mounting credit card bills that keep compounding, to knowing you should have more money than what your account says, to just trying to get started when you make a shift in life.

And it’s way more common than you think.

According to a 2024 CNBC study, 70% of Americans feel financially stressed. Over half say that stress is getting worse.

I’m holding your hand with no napkin in between when I say this:

You’re not failing. You’re not bad with money. You’re overwhelmed.

Hell, I have moments when I have to tell myself the same thing. And money is one of the most intimate things you could talk about or make shift about it. The economy has changed. Prices have gone up. Your rent, your groceries, your student loans — they’re all putting pressure on a paycheck that hasn’t changed much.

One of the books I referenced about Financial Anxiety during my "What's The Budget Workshop" was "End Financial Stress Now: Immediate Steps You Can Take to Improve Your Financial Outlook," and if you're feeling like that now, I recommend it to you too!.

But here’s the part you can control: knowing what your money is actually doing.

Here's how I help clients move out of financial fog:

1. Create a Calm Moment.
Set aside 30-45 minutes. Grab tea, a playlist, whatever makes you feel safe and grounded. This is your money check-in.

2. Look at the last 30-60 Days.
Go through your debit and credit card statements. Just observe. Where did your money go? Where were you surprised?

3. Name what’s working — and what’s not.
This isn’t about blame. It’s about patterns. Perhaps you’re overspending on takeout, or maybe your insurance rate has increased. The goal is to see.

Awareness creates power. Once you name the pattern, you can break it — or build on it. Affirmations are amazing, but alignment is built on awareness.

Inside my Budget + Cash Flow Blueprint, this is where we begin. I don’t throw spreadsheets at you and say, “figure it out.” I walk with you. We audit, we assess, we rework your plan based on your life.

Because budgeting isn’t just math. It’s mental health. It’s clarity. It’s freedom.

And guess what? You’re not behind. You’re just ready to do things differently.

💬 Question for you: What’s the one part of your money that always gives you anxiety — and what would change if that part got easier?
